Location: Piraeus lies on the Saronikos Gulf towards the SE the
mainland.
General overview: It is the major port in Greece and is the
port for Athens,
handling most cargoes in its main (central) port, Hercules port and
subports,
the latter occupying some of the many bays in the area.
There are more than 20,000m of quay space with 9 Ro-Ro ramps available.
Shore leave is permitted. There are also facilities for crew changes.
Fresh water is available at the berths. There is also a supply of all
grades of
bunker oils available in the port.
Traffic figures : Approx 10,000,000 of cargo including 426,000
TEUs are
Handled by the port annually.

Location : Elefsis is located on the Saronikos Gulf towards the
SE of the mainland,
24km from Piraeus.
General overview: The port accommodates vessels with up to
3,66m draft for
entering the old port. E of the old port at a distance of approx 300m
there is a
quay 300m length and 80m width. For the first 145m of the quay,
vessels with up
to 7.31m draft can be berthed and for the remainder vessels of 10m
draft can berth.
Distance between the old and new harbours is 345m, depth 7.31m.
Exports include cement, oil-based paints, soap, wine, resin and olive
oil.
Import consist of general goods.

Port : AGIOI THEODOROI

Location : Agioi Theodoroi is situated in Elefsis Bay in the
Saronikos Gulf.
General overview : A tanker berth, W of Pachi with deep water. Oil
bunkers
and fresh water are available. Approach: The 300m long jetty projects
SSE
from the shore and there is deep water right up to the jetty.
Cargoes include : Crude oil and refinery products.
Traffic figures : Approx 330 vessels with a total of 6,000,000t
use the port
annually.
Restrictions : Max size: Approx 300,000dwt, max draft: 21.9m
(72ft).

Port : PACHI

Location : Pachi is situated in Megara Bay.
General overview: Pachi Oil Terminal is one of Hellenic
Aspropyrgos SA’s facilities.
Vessels from 20,000-600,000dwt can be accommodated usually starboard
side
alongside. The terminal is approached directly from deep water in the
bay and is of
easy access. Bunkers and fresh water are both available and lubricants.
Cargoes include : Crude Oil.
Traffic figures : Approx 80 vessels per annum visit the port
importing approx 6,500,000t of crude oil.
Restrictions : Max draft 29m, Max DWT 600,000

Port : CORINTH

Location : Corinth is situated close W of Poseidonia which is
at the NW entrance
to the Corinth Canal.
General overview: It is an artificial harbour, protected by a
mole in front of the
town of Corinth. Corinth was once a thriving seaport but its
importance
diminished after the construction of the Corinth Canal.
Sea traffic is now limited to trade in the export of local produce,
mainly currants
and raisins and domestic imports.

Port : CORINTH CANAL

Location : The Corinth Canal is a 6,343m gorge linking the
Corinthian and
Saronic Gulfs. The ports of Isthmia and Poseidonia are at either end
and
Occupy some 540m of the total canal frontage.
General overview : Currents change approx each hour and the
waterway is
much effected by NW winds. Canal depth is 8,0m, width at bottom 21m
and 24,6m at sea level. Max width of transiting vessel is 18.3m and
draft 7.2m.
Headway below rail bridge is 58.8m and below road bridge 54m.
Canal is lighted at night. Maximum speed of vessels navigating the
canal is 6kn.
The Canal is operated by the New Company of the Corinth Canal, based
at
Isthmia Corinthias, who will furnish tariffs upon request.
Restrictions : Corinth Canal is closed from 0600-1800 every
Thursday
for maintenance. Max size: Max draft is in relation to width in normal
weather conditions at normal water level the restrictions are as
follows:
Width 16-16.5m - Max Draft 6.2m; Width 15.5-16m - Max Draft 6.2m;
Width 15-15.5m - Max Draft 6.2m; Width 14.5-15m - Max Draft 6.2m;
Width 14-14.5m - Max Draft 6.2m.

Port : KALAMAKI

Location : Kalamaki is located E of the SE mouth to the Corinth
Canal on
the N coast of Saronikos Gulf.
General overview : The port provides good shelter from all
winds, but
violent squalls may be experienced particularly during strong N winds.
Port installations are situated on the NE side of the bay, close SE of
the
Village of Kalamaki. The Kalamaki Private Pier is 2nm ENE of Corinth
Canal. This dock belongs to the Murikis Wood Factory, which is 500m
from the dock. The berth is used for small vessels of 2.000 dwt
loading
plywood. The bulk handling facility consists of a fixed tower equipped
with two suction pipes, which can operate together for the discharging
of Soya beans. A dolphin berth is situated close to the main jetty and
is
used for the discharge of logs. Bunkers only MDO/MGO by truck.
Cargoes include: Soya beans, soya meal, soya oil and sunflower
oil.
Traffic figures : 60 vessels and 150,000t of cargo handled in
1993.
Restrictions : Max draft 12m.

General overview: Agia Trias, also known as Megara, is an oil
berth with a
Pier owned by Hellenic Aspropyrgos Refinery S.A..

Port : LAVRION

Location: Lavrion is located southeast of Piraeus close to the
eastern tip of the
Attica Peninsula.
General overview: A major development plan is underway which
will give Lavrion
the opportunity to promote itself as a viable alternative to Piraeus
and Thessaloniki.
Both the commercial port and inter-island ferry terminal are being
upgraded
with EU funds. The max draft for the commercial port is 6 mtrs and for
the ferry
terminal there are works under process and the final draft is not yet
fixed.
RO-RO, Container, and passenger facilities are to be provided in the
port
Itself which are scheduled to start in 2002.
Also new storage areas, customs facilities and office space are
planned in
adjacent areas.
Shore leave is permitted. There are also facilities for crew changes.
Fresh water is available by truck. Supply of bunkers only MDO/MGO by
truck,
from Piraeus.

Port : THESSALONIKI (SALONICA)

Location: The port of Thessaloniki is on the NW Shore of the
Thermaikos Gulf.
Alternatively known as Salonica.
General Overview: Thessaloniki is the starting point of
significant rail, motor,
air networks and sealines. By these means it is connected with Fastern
and Western
Europe and especially with the main economic centers of the continent.
Regular and other shipping lines join Thessaloniki with the whole
world and
gives out the status of an important commercial center.
It is considered as the natural outlet of the Balcan Peninsula, while
its sphere
of influence extends over a large part of central and Eastern Europe.
Finally the port offers 3 containers berths , 20 general cargo berths,
tanker and
liquefied gas terminals, 15 transit sheds and 20 warehouses (see port
map
for details).
Thessaloniki port covers all type of agency services. Bunkers also of
all
Grades are available as well as lubricants.
Traffic figures: The port has a modern and efficient container
terminal with a combined capacity of 200,000 containers annually.
